KIBRIA: A Retrospective

This retrospective exhibition presented a rare selection of works by Mohammad Kibria (1929–2011), bringing together artworks from private collectors, institutions, and the artist’s family collection. Many of these works were exhibited to the public for the very first time.

Kibria’s practice reflects a lifelong exploration of abstraction, silence, and inner emotion. His time in Japan on a Government scholarship deeply shaped his visual language, where he studied printmaking techniques and encountered Zen philosophy and Japanese aesthetics, which later influenced his approach to form and space.

After returning to Bangladesh, Kibria developed a distinctive abstract vocabulary characterized by layered compositions, restrained palettes, and meditative structures. His works continue to hold a significant place in the evolution of modern Bangladeshi art, influencing generations of artists and art students.

This retrospective offers a reflective view of his artistic legacy, emphasizing his commitment to inner expression and his enduring contribution to abstraction in South Asian art.

Solo Exhibition — Javed Jalil — Innocent with the Hungry

Innocent with the hungry-was a solo exhibition by Javed Jalil featuring 27 oil paintings. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mohammad Kibria, with Mr. Anjan Chowdhury, Chairman of SPBA, as special guest.

In this body of work, Jalil imagines himself at the center of an exploration where surrounding sensations and realities—both physical and metaphysical—converge through his personal vision, which he describes as his “secret soliloquy.” Within this introspective realm, he seeks order, poetry, and permanence in his own distinctive manner.

The artist regards each canvas as a snapshot of a particular moment in time, reflecting the journey of that moment while encompassing multiple ideas and experiences. His unique linear mode of expression and highly personal visual language distinguish his artworks and establish a singular artistic narrative.
